Regular readers of our blog know that we have been doing a series of articles discussing the different types of edges customers can choose from when they purchase new countertops from Bedrock Quartz. This post continues that series with a discussion on the basic flat edge. A flat edge might not seem so fancy, but it looks fantastic when paired with other design features.
Do not be afraid to ask about the flat edge if you are not exactly sure what would be best for your new quartz countertops. Also note that flat edges are available with granite and marble countertops as well.
As Basic As It Gets
The flat edge is pretty much as basic as you can get in countertop edges. It is exactly as its name suggests: flat on all sides. The top, bottom, and corners are all at 90 degrees for a completely flat and square look. But note that the edges are polished ever so slightly to give them a rounded finish. That way you are not looking at sharp edges that would otherwise be problematic.
We think that flat edges look extremely attractive when the entire countertop surface is polished. A polished surface is a reflective surface, and that gives flat edges a bit more definition – especially under the right lighting.
A Modern Look and Feel for Your New Countertops
Whether it is quartz, granite, or marble countertops, a lot of our customers appreciate the flat edge because it offers a modern look and feel. A flat edge is clean and straight. It fits in nicely with the modern farmhouse decorating style. Flat edges also work very well with shaker-style cabinets.
It is our opinion that flat edges are a strong candidate if you are looking at stainless steel appliances or any other design features that lend themselves well to an industrial look. You might even say that the flat edge is like the color white. It goes with everything.
Easy to Clean and Maintain
If you’re worried about flat edges in terms of cleaning and countertop care/maintenance, there is no need to continue doing so. Flat edges are just as easy as any other type of edge to work with. As far as cleaning is concerned, wipe crumbs off the counter and into your hand. Then some warm water and gentle dish soap will take care of the rest.
Because flat edges also have a flat vertical surface – or a face, if you will – you need to keep an eye on liquids and semisolid foods that might stick to the surface. They are easy to overlook. If you don’t clean them off within a reasonable amount of time, you could find that the material embeds itself on the surface.
Good-looking but Not Fancy
Perhaps the best way to describe the flat edge is to say that it looks good without being too fancy. That’s what makes it such an ideal choice for any countertop material. Many of our customers choose the flat edge for granite, marble, and quartz countertops. Even if you were purchasing a less expensive laminate elsewhere, the flat edge would be a viable option.
